I decided to tick another thing of my Chicago Bucket List. This time it was the Skydeck at Willis Tower. Standing at 1451 it is the 2nd tallest building in the United States and the 14th tallest in the world, so it made for some pretty amazing views of Chicago and beyond.
I’ve been dying to do something on the City Pass since the Alder Planetarium. With the City Pass you get access to the Skydeck with a fast pass, so you can avoid those ques. Willis Tower is the tallest building in Chicago so I was excited to see the city from that high up. The Skydeck is located 1353ft up on the 103rd floor of Willis Tower.
Before travelling up to the Skydeck you can sit and watch a movie on the history of the tower which I found very interesting and informative. Formerly called Sears Tower the building was complete in 1973 and was the tallest building in the world at the time. The building was renamed Willis Tower by Willis Group Holding which acquired the rights after leasing a few floors in the building.
The view of the city from the Skydeck is breath taking. It gives you a totally new perspective of the city from that height. Looking down on people going about their day below was a strange experience for me, so many people with their own story, their own little world (very deep I know!).
For all the Ferris Buellers Day Off fans there was even a recreation of a scene on the Skydeck where you could have your picture taken. The film is celebrating its 30th birthday this year so I suppose its only fair they pay homage to a classic.
Stepping out onto the glass ledge is quite the daunting experience and certainly not for those who are not too keen on heights. Looking down at that height actually made me quite dizzy, it felt like I was floating above Chicago.
From that high up you can see 3 different states Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. It must be a very clear day for this to happen but luckily we got the best of the weather so there was an endless amount of viewing on each side of the Skydeck.
So far, the City Pass has been amazing value for money. For just $98 you get access to some of the city’s most popular tourist attractions. So if you planning on spending a few days in Chicago it is definitely worth a go.
Nice one Jack !! Kept this under wraps
Thanks Cam!
