Since arriving in Chicago I have been very impressed with the public transport. It’s a very reliable service and not too expensive to use, in fact if you get the monthly pass it works out relatively cheap if you use it a lot. With Chicago being the third biggest city in the US it’s easy to see why they have the second largest public transport systems in the country, the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority). The CTA operate the busses and the L Train in Chicago
Since I have been living out in Edgewater I have been taking public transport pretty much every day since I arrived and for the $100 I pay a month for the unlimited pass I have been very impressed with it. This pass allows me to see as much of Chicago as I want, whenever I want.
The L Train
The L Train (elevated train) has 8 different lines, 2 of which run 24 hours. The blue line runs from O’Hare International Airport to UIC Halsted and the red line (which I live on) runs from North to South. All of the L Train lines are focused towards The Loop which is located in downtown Chicago, right in the heart of the city.
Buses
Busses are also a great way of getting around Chicago CTA operate over 140 different bus routes throughout the city, so if you want to get somewhere the L doesn’t reach this is your best bet.
The Transit App is a handy app for tracking trains and buses. CityMapper is also great for showing you multiple routes of getting to where you want to go.
Overall I am very happy with the public transport in Chicago. It’s great value for money and a very reliable way of getting around. Be sure to consider this over taxis if you are in the city, its a money saver.
