Yesterday I took a cruise down the Chicago River in a water taxi. At just $8 for a trip from Willis Tower to Navy Pier it was great value for money. Shoreline Sight Seeing offer two water taxi routes, Navy Pier to the Shedd Aquarium and Navy Pier to the Willis Tower. They also offer architecture tours which range from $35 to $41, which I plan on checking out very soon.
A water taxi down the river is something I’ve wanted to tick off the Chicago Bucket List for a while now, so it was great to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city and take a relaxing cruise. We set sail from Willis Tower on a 15 min taxi ride which took us through the heart of Chicago.
You get such a different perspective of the city from the river, it really makes you appreciate the rich history behind this cities buildings. What made it special was having the sun on our backs lighting up the cityscape ahead.
When I’m ticking the aquarium trip off the Chicago list I’ll be sure to get the taxi from Navy Pier over. I’m excited to see the city from that far out on the lake. Its certain to make for some Instagram worthy pics anyway.
Looking more into the trips along the river, I’ll certainly check Chicago Water Taxis out. They operate out of 7 different docks along the Chicago River, Ogilvie/Union (West Loop), Michigan Avenue, LaSalle (River North), Riverwalk Clark Street, North Avenue/Sheffield, Chinatown, Chicago Avenue. It’s clear to see they have a lot to offer in terms of how much of the river they cover. Prices range from $8 for a one day pass of unlimited rides, $17.50 for 10 rides and $60 for a 31 day pass.
For such reasonable prices I can definitely see myself spending more time on the river this summer.
