Come summer Chicago plays host to countless festivals and events week after week. And the best part about this is most of them are free! Who doesn’t love a free festival? If you’re planning a trip here are 4 free events Chicago has to offer this Summer
Navy Pier Fireworks
Every year Navy Pier plays host to a colourful display of fireworks twice a week, Wednesdays (9:30pm) and Saturdays at (10:15pm), from the end of May to the start of September. The beautiful backdrop of the Chicago skyline really makes the display something special.
Every summer Millennium Park plays host to 18 free outdoor concerts. Beginning on the 6th of June and ending on the 25th of August, they take place every Monday and Thursday at 6:30pm. You can find a wide variety of different music genres here throughout the summer, from up and coming to well established artists from Chicago and further afield. These free concerts take place in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion.
The perfect day out for food lovers, Chicago is home to the biggest taste festival in the world, Taste of Chicago. From July 6th -10th this summer Grant Park will provide 5 days of foodie heaven. You can get a real sense of how diverse the food scene is in Chicago, with a vast assortment of restaurants and pop ups for all needs. Once you’re content with your days eating you can check out the live music at The Bud Light Stage or take part in the many other activities located throughout.
Movies at the Park
This outdoor film series also takes place in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. Beginning on the 21st of June and running until August 30th visitor can catch a classic movie every Tuesday from 6:30pm. Film genres vary every week from the likes of Ferris Buellers Day Off to Silence Of The Lambs. So grab your popcorn and a bottle of wine and lounge out on the grass to a free movie. What more could you want?
